Armor Of God Theme Activities For The Senses
Sinking Slowly
Provide items that will float at first but then sink such as pieces of different types of paper cardboard a cup.
They float but as the water gets to them more and more, they sink.
We are strong and saved and protected by God. We need to continue to learn about him and live our lives as he has shown us in His word, the Bible, or slowly, we will become weak and give in to temptations.
For example: God does not want us to lie. It is displeasing to Him and hurts others. If we stop thinking about these Godly things, it will become easier for us to just tell a little lie, then a bigger one.

- Hold up a picture of a football player and ask the kids if they know what he is. Next show a picture of a solider, then a firefighter, and lastly a scuba diver.
- Ask: Does anyone notice what these pictures have in common?
- Say: In many jobs or activities its important to have the right gear to protect us. What would happen if a firefighter walked into a burning building without his gear? What would happen to a scuba diver without his gear?
- Ask: What other things can you think of that we need protection from?
- Ask: What about Satan? Do we need protection from him?
- Say: Just like people do things to protect themselves from harm in their jobs, God has given us certain types of gear or tools to protect us from Satan! In the Bible Paul writes that this gear is like the armor of a solider. Today well hear about how God gives us armor to help us fight against Satan.

The Breastplate Of Righteousness
Lesson Summary: This lesson views two different aspects of the breastplate of righteousness. First we wear it and are protected by putting on the righteousness of Christ. Secondly we bear it as we obey and walk in God’s commands living a life or righteousness protects us and helps us stand firm in Christ. Make sure to note we are not saved by works of our own righteousness, but because we are given Jesus’ righteousness, good works should naturally be a part of our new life in Christ.
Key Take Away: Being right with God keeps our heart from being dirty with sin.
Focal Scriptures: Ephesians 6:14 Proverbs 4:23 Romans 13:14

Materials:
- a glass bowl large enough for two oranges to be completely submerged
Read Ephesians 6:10-17
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
The Lesson
Talk about what each piece of armor stands for and how it helps us stand against the devil.
Ask your children to pretend to put on each piece of armor as you discuss how that particular piece might help them throughout their day.
Place both oranges in the bowl with their armor on. Talk about how the oranges are floating, or standing firm in the water.
These are a few resources weve enjoyed to reinforce the importance of girding ourselves with the Armor of God:
Armor Of God Theme Science Activities

Removing the Armor
Materials needed: 2 oranges, a large clear bowl 3/4 full of water.
Place the oranges in the water. They are floating. Talk about oranges and what is on the outside and the inside.
Is the inside getting wet from the water? Why not? .
Discuss the armor of God one piece at a time. Read the Bible story one line at a time, explaining what each part means .
After you discuss one piece of armor, remove one piece of the orange peel of one orange and return to the water.
Discuss next piece of armor. Take the orange and remove another piece of peel.
Continue as you do each piece of armor.
Slowly, the orange will sink lower and lower.
As you talk about each piece and remove a piece of peel, ask the children what they think something they could do would be that would remove that piece of armor .
Let’s Review The Scripture
This theme for preschoolers is typically taught concretely and sometimes it is avoided because of the battle references.
That is not the purpose of this section of the Bible! Let’s have a mini Bible study together!
Ephesians 6:10-18:
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lords people.”
The armor Paul is talking about here is concerning “the achievement of righteousness & justice and the proclamation of God’s truth that brings peace.”
Let’s look at each piece of armor and their biblical meanings and keep this in mind as we carry out activities with our preschoolers.
-Belt of Truth: A belt was an item put on before the others. Integrity of character, truthfulness . Preschool translation: Don’t lie!
Isaiah 59:17 and 1 Thessalonians 5:8 both refer to the breastplate as well as helmet of salvation.
Childrens Sermon Teaching Example
The Armor of God is a fun visual to talk about with students, but it is important to communicate what it truly means, as well. As frightening as it might sound, there are evil forces at work in the world around us. The good news is that we know God protects and provides for us, no matter what. This message uses some protective gear to exemplify the importance and meaning of being protected from harm. Our spiritual armor guards our souls and keeps us safe in Christ Jesus.

Lesson Guide The Armor Of God
Talk about armour. Explain that it is worn by soldiers to protect their bodies when they are in battle. Look at pictures of different kinds of armour. Talk about what areas are most important to protect and which materials are most used. If the child is older, you may ask them to point out some of the pros and cons of the various armour .
Make a batch of flavoured jelly. Allow to harden in either small containers or a large dish, whatever works best to end up with several thick pieces of jelly. Put each piece onto a plate and set them out on the table along with several weapons such as toothpicks, a butter knife, or wooden spoon. Allow the child to attack one of the jelly moulds. Point out how easily the jelly is destroyed by the weapons. Create armour out of tinfoil, cardboard, or paper. Check to see how well the armours hold up against the weapons. Now, take a metal measuring cup or bowl. Place over the top of the jelly. Allow the child to try to attack the jelly. Point out that the hard metal bowl created an impenetrable armour.
Point out that we can only be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Ask your child to pick up a heavy object. They cannot do it on their own. Help them by carrying the weight, and point out that with your power and strength, they can achieve what they could not on their own.
In order to solidify the various pieces of Armour and what they represent, you may do several things.
Point out that God wants us to be prepared to serve Him.
