- Use sandboxes, shaving cream or some other fun activity to help kids spell the words
Free Sight Word Games
There are two players, who will each take turns to guess the location of the four ships that their Enemy has hidden on the periodic table.
- Each player grabs their boards and marker and props it up, so that the other player cant see their boards.
- Using the marker, they will mark out their ships on the top board, either vertically or horizontally by writing in sight words or by using the sight word cards provided. These cards can be stuck to the board using blue-tac or velcro.
- Player one calls out the number at the top of the column and the letter of the alphabet for the row.
- Player two checks on their Ship board and says hit if there is a ship there or miss if there are no ships there.
- Player one then marks their shot on their board as a miss or hit, to keep track of their guesses. Player two will mark it on their Ship board if it is a hit. When their opponent has found every square of the ship, then you must announce that it is sunk.
- Repeat, taking turns.
More Sight Word Games And Activities
Besides sight word bingo, several fun games can help kids to learn sight words.
I Spy: One popular game is called I Spy. To play, one player chooses a sight word and then clues the other players about what the word is.
For example, the player might say, I spy with my little eye something that starts with the letter M. If the other players guess correctly, they get the point.
Hangman. To play this fun game, one player thinks of a sight word and then draws a row of dashes on a piece of paper for each letter in the word.
The other players take turns guessing letters if they guess correctly, the letter is written in the right position. If they guess wrong, another body part is added to the stick figure being drawn.
The first person to guess the word correctly wins the game.
Sight Word Scavenger Hunt. For this activity, hide sight words around the house or classroom and have kids search for them.
As they find each word, they can read it out loud and cross it off their list. The first player to find all of the words wins the game.

Kindergarten Sight Words With Pictures
Kindergarten sight words are basic words that are seen the most frequently in grade-level books. Many of the words are hard to illustrate because of their simplicity. One way to create flashcards of kindergarten sight words with pictures is to have students decorate them or create an illustration that helps them remember the word.
For example, they may draw someone crawling under a table, or they might draw a picture of a toy that has fallen under a bed to illustrate the word UNDER.
Whatever image helps them remember the word is fine to use. The goal is to help them learn the words so there is no right or wrong.

Why Are Sight Words Important
Sight words are an essential part of reading. They help your child to be able to read fluently and with comprehension.
When your child can recognize sight words quickly, they can focus on the meaning of the text rather than decoding each word.
Research has noted that students who struggle with reading during their early stages of education often encounter difficulties in their secondary education and adulthood.
Therefore, it is crucial to tackle any problems students may be having early and give them the time they need to develop their literacy skills.
